An important additive in papermaking - Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)
Paper, as a medium for information transmission, learning records, entertainment, leisure, and emotional communication, deeply integrates into every aspect of our lives and is an indispensable carrier for us.
Behind seemingly ordinary paper, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is particularly important.
Papermaking and CMC
1.Wet part addition
In the wet end of the papermaking process, the addition of CMC can enhance the bonding force between fibers, thereby significantly improving the tensile strength, compressive strength, and flexibility of the paper, making it more durable and load-bearing.
2.pulp grinding
In pulp grinding, the addition of CMC can reduce excessive fiber cutting, promote fiber swelling and good separation, thereby improving grinding efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and saving production costs.
3.Surface glue application
In the process of paper surface sizing, CMC has excellent film formation and whole film transfer performance, and can form good sealing property and oil resistance on the surface of paper or board. This is essential to improve the waterproof, moisture-proof and oilproof properties of the paper. At the same time, CMC is also a dispersant, which can make the whole compound or coating form a stable and uniform system, so as to obtain good sizing effect.
